"Living the dream."
It's from the Flintstones. A pterodactyl, I think. With a job sucking for a primitive vacuum or something.
It's sarcastic. It's something my mom used to say on bad days at work. Accompanied by a shrug.
It's something I say when things are difficult. When attendance dips or payroll is a challenge or my heart just isn't in it because: life.
This year's Detroit Improv Festival, though, has been special. Old friends and new ones. Some of the most talented, caring, joyous performers taking time out of their lives to entertain our hometown. Celebrities and rookies sharing stories and drinks and stages.
An army of volunteers donating sweat and time and tears to make everyone feel important, because they are.
Thank you to everyone who made this incredible week possible.
It's been a privilege. It has been the truest definition of Living the Dream.
See you next August.
-Pj and the DIF team.

The Improv Project Hosts
A benefit for The Detroit Creativity Project.
It's a night of laughter for a good cause! Be there when Detroit students from The Improv Project join forces with Los Angeles-based improv troupe The 313. Featuring special guests JoAnne Purtan, WXYZ and SNL alum Tim Meadows. Get tickets here.
The 313 cast is an all-star line up of Second City Detroit alums including Nyima Funk (Whose Line is it Anyway, Soul Man), Nancy Hayden (Second City Hollywood), Jaime Moyer (2 Broke Girls, Jennifer Falls), and Marc Evan Jackson (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, 22 Jump Street). Additional cast members will be confirmed later this month.
Proceeds from this event go to support The Improv Project, an improv training course offered free to middle and high school students in Detroit.
