About the Detroit Improv Festival
The Detroit Improv Festival (DIF) is a celebration of spontaneous, unscripted comedy in the heart of the Motor City. Since its launch in 2011, DIF has brought together world-class performers, local talent, and enthusiastic audiences for a week of unforgettable shows, workshops, and community connection.
Each August, we transform Detroit into a hub for improvisers and comedy lovers from across North America. With performances ranging from high-energy longform to fast-paced shortform, DIF showcases the depth and diversity of improv today.
We’re proud to highlight Detroit’s vibrant comedy scene while also welcoming performers from cities like Chicago, Toronto, Los Angeles, New York—and beyond. DIF is produced by Detroit Improv Collective and powered by a team of passionate volunteers and performers who believe in the power of laughter to bring people together.
Whether you're a seasoned improviser, a first-time audience member, or just someone looking for a good laugh—there’s a place for you at DIF.
What We Do:
Live Performances: Featuring troupes from Detroit and across the continent.
Workshops: Led by acclaimed instructors to help improvisers level up their craft.
